In 2020, WRVEC purchased a sleek Nissan LEAF as the Cooperative’s newest all-electric vehicle. We knew owning an EV was a good fit for the Cooperative for many reasons, but here are just a few of the benefits:

• EVs cost less to operate and require less maintenance than gas-powered cars.
• Most EVs driving range is between 80-330 miles; that’s more that the average American’s daily commute.
• Fully recharging the battery is as simple as plugging it into an installed charger at the end of the day.
• EVs are quiet, smooth-operating, and have stronger acceleration than gas-powered cars.
• EVs are more environmentally friendly due to having no tailpipe emissions.

We worked with several great dealerships and drove some really cool EV models in the shopping process. Ultimately, we purchased the LEAF because we were able to capitalize on federal incentives and a sizable rebate from being a Touchstone Energy member. Yet another benefit to cooperative membership. Together we can help energize our communities!

Consider Installing a Level 2 (240V) Electric Vehicle Charger

Consider Installing a Level 2 (240V) Electric Vehicle Charger logo
Level 2 electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) provides charging through a 240 V AC plug. Level 2 adds about 10 to 60 miles of range to a vehicle per hour of charging time, making it far more convenient than standard 120 V AC charging, which adds about 2 to 5 miles per hour of charging. Additionally, level 2 charging is a more energy-efficient method of charging, as most EV have on-board components that require additional electricity the entire time the EV is plugged in.
  • Level 2 chargers are four to six times faster than using a standard home outlet.
  • More efficient charging than standard outlet (120V) charging.
  • Many units come with additional controls, such as timers and wifi connectivity.
